digitizing scanners designed to be compatible with the high quality guidelines « Metamorfoze »

digitizing scanners designed to be compatible with the high quality guidelines « Metamorfoze »

It all starts with a story … At i2S, it all began in 2007, after a contact for our Dutch distributor who wonders himself if the i2S book scanners respond well to new guidelines « Metamorfoze »? We put in place a battery of tests and developments to meet this exciting challenge and needs of our distributor. Sewing up we crossed the barriers to meet in terms of image quality with the requirements of this Directive. This enabled us to win a number of tenders, all focused on image quality. After these experiences, we design a new scanner, the Quartz A1 , taking into account the early specification « Metamorfoze « . Today, i2S is the undisputed leader in the segment of high-quality scanners for heritage collections.   The guidelines « Metamorfoze » and « FADGI » Metamorfoze: This is the Dutch spelling of the Greek word, « μεταμόρφωσις » meaning transformation. Halfway between biology and « Metamorphoses » of Ovid, this term covers the Netherlands an extensive grant program dedicated to scanning. This program aims to conserve and digitizing Dutch cultural heritage writing . As Ovid trying to recreate in his poems, myths and the world he knew, « Metamorfoze » seeks likewise to digitally transcribe, the world of paper left by the Dutch heritage. The guidelines « Metamorfoze » has three level-based document types: Metamorfoze intended to works of art (photos & amp; tables) Metamorfoze Light for manuscripts and books; Metamorfoze Extra Light for newspapers. With a threshold « good or bad » and units based on human vision: L*a*b*, espace couleur eciRGBv2 Beyond « Metamorfoze », two international standards share the same goal and the same vision in terms of image quality, FADGI* the other side...

The National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco Preserving its National Funds Heritage

The National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco Preserving its National Funds Heritage

The National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco (called « NLKM ») is actively engaged in preserving its national heritage. This project was created in 2009 with the goal of conserving, restauring, and digitizing all the Moroccan heritage funds, representing 80,000 manuscripts (200,000 titles) of every era since the 9th century, conserved in every Moroccan library (NLKM, heritage libraries, university libraries, public libraries, and private libraries which are open to the public). Determined and engaged, NLKM has set clear objectives: make accessible all francophone content through a digital library , preserve the original manuscripts (deteriorating with public use) , expand its reputation internationally and establish a « temple guardian » reputation , conserve at least one digital copy (in case of a catastrophe), digitize all the manuscripts for mid-June 2016. To reach these goals, NLKM has partnered up with i2S, specialists in image capturing and processing, and with Spigraph (Moroccan agency) to assure a global service. Since the beginning of the project in 2009, i2S has equipped NLKM with a book scanner called CopiBook. Then , to reach a sufficiant production rhythm, NLKM has enlarged its scanner park with CopiBook and DigiBook scanners for works requiring partial opening to scan. « These scanners are magnificent. They are robust and never break. The i2S scanner collection has allowed us to reach our goals, and in particular digitilize 4,600,000 pages for mid-June 2016 » ~ Hassan Aakki, head of Management and Conservation of collections. Characteristics of the content Hassan Aakki explains that the content of the manuscripts constitutes the cultural identity and specificity of the Morrocan civilization. Its importance resides in its values such as history, scientific, and arts as it is attractive. Unique works enriched with diagrams, commentaries, and...
How to sell book scanners in China

How to sell book scanners in China

For fifteen days at the end of 2015, Alex Besson, the globetrotter who manages the Asian territories for i2S, had a memorable experience in China in Kunming, Yunnan Province and Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. The goal was to sell book scanners and software solutions. This trip was planned with WeChat , the application that every self-respecting Chinese « geek » uses all the time. It allowed him to talk with his clients on the other side of the the « Great Wall of China. » For our globetrotter, this has a considerable advantage: « you can send photos and videos practically in real time and receive a message in in Chinese that you translate into English.« . Nevertheless, as with any professional relationship, mutual confidence is established by spending time in the field with the clients. During those 15 days, our experienced traveler spread his wings and created conditions that fostered mutual trust. It’s true that building bridges between these two cultures constantly every day from 8 am to midnight isn’t easy, but by opening up to each other and learning about each other’s cultures in all forms, the relationship becomes easier. LIMB GALLERY at the Yunnan Province’s library. During his first week, Alex began his travels with a visit to the Library of the province of Yunnan, one of our prestigious clients in that area, one that has invested in our  LIMB Gallery™ digital library solution. During this journey, Alex accompanied the client for the launch of this software solution accompanied by the software development team recruited locally by SWOLF, our local Chinese partner. http://msq.ynlib.cn/ The digital library was online very quickly, ready to make digitized images available almost instantly...
18 eScan Open System scanners installed at National Library of France

18 eScan Open System scanners installed at National Library of France

For offering knowledge accessibility to all, the National Library of France decided to facilitate cultural heritage access to its audience. A recognized civic engagement but the public library sees its limits with the use of photocopiers: the old or bound books wore out quickly (face down, crushing) and you can’t see what is printed or scanned. It is clear that a image capture from the top is the most suitable technique. Thus, from 2009, the National Library of France becomes the first public institution in the world to equip themselves with eScan Open System book scanners, innovative scanning solutions developed by i2S respectful of all works, for replacing photocopiers. Through the outsourcing company Sedeco, the National Library of France is equipped first – in 2009 – with 12 eScan book scanners first generation, the first self-service book scanner on the market easy to use and ergonomic. Installed on 4 sites of the National Library of France, these 12 scanning solutions allow the public to ask a local operator to make a copy of an excerpt of a work in high-quality then printed (single output mode authorized by the institution at that time). The + : digitization up to A3+ format, easy to move, combersome, can be installed on any support With the success of its service, the National Library of France decided in 2014 to renew its outsourcing park, and to increase the number of scanners. Appreciating the features already existing in the eScan first generation, the library therefore wishes to change the use of scanners leaving some with direct access to readers (scanning by ourself). To accommodate both public heterogeneous users and a wide range of works, the imposed criteria for...

Easy to move, it is designed for travelling and it can be quickly installed, so it perfectly fits to the needs of the service provider when digitization of the documents is needed on the spot. Productivity and simplicity of use of our digitization solutions In terms of productivity, CopiBook™ is a book scanner allowing the digitization up to 1000 pages per hour. Auto Docs captures social history with i2S technology

Summary: Auto Docs captures social history from classic publications for global searchers using leading technology from i2S. The objectives  were to capture the entire content of five historical periodicals published between 1869 and 1990 from originals held at the Mary Evans Picture Library, Blackheath, London. The capture solution had to: Deliver consistent, high-quality images from the original copies of the periodicals for use by on-line social researchers worldwide. Be capable of being housed on-site at Mary Evans in the very limited space available in the library facility. Meet very aggressive on-line publication deadlines set by the content publisher. The project was completed using book scanners from French technology provider i2S DigiBook and supported by Spigraph Network, i2S’s exclusive distribution partner in the UK. The solution comprised: Two CopiBook Cobalt RGB A2 book scanners operated by Auto Docs staff on-site at Mary Evans scanners. Capture quality management and project management from Auto Docs Glasgow service bureau.
