Manuel Valls visits i2S

Manuel Valls visits i2S

Yesterday, on Thursday October 27, things were buzzing at i2S. We had the great privilege of meeting the Prime Minister, Manuel Valls, as part of the « Factory of the Future » program launched by the New Aquitaine region. So what is New Aquitaine’s factory of the future? Initiated in February 2014, the « Factory of the Future » program now includes 290 ETIs and SMEs with over 20 employees from all over New Aquitaine (Aquitaine, Limousin, Poitou-Charentes). This program is founded on three pillars: production tools; industrial organization; and human beings in the factory (training, working conditions, and management). This ambitious program is about « making New Aquitaine a leader in French industrial renewal in the digital age and helping companies develop a new type of production that is competitive, humane and respectful of the environment « . 40 minutes to convince from the know-how to the show-how Speaking of programs, the one devised by i2S for the visit of our famous guests was intense, a winding course on the theme of « seeing what the eye cannot see ». Not easy to achieve but, as always with us, we managed it despite the troop of journalists. Pascal Thuilliez, Business Development Manager for Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, and Philippe Bayle, i2S’s great expert in image quality received the Prime Minister, Alain Rousset , the President of the New Aquitaine region, and Jean-Luc Gleize, the President of the General Council of the Gironde, in our showroom which is dedicated to the dissemination of culture and knowledge. Although i2S is a small French SME, major national institutions like libraries and archives look on us as the...
3D camera: be ready for the third dimension!

3D camera: be ready for the third dimension!

3D image processing is a hot topic. The number of applications that require 3D images is increasing constantly. 3D viewing and 3D cameras are used in applications such as automated processes that use robots in factories or warehouses, or for inspecting surfaces or measuring volumes. With the development of its first 3D video camera, Time-of-Flight (ToF), our partner, Basler, opens new horizons thanks to the possibilities of the third dimension. The Basler ToF camera works on the time-of-flight principle, which is based on measuring the time required for light to travel from the light source to the object and to return from the object to the camera. With a VGA resolution, the Basler ToF camera is the first high-resolution ToF camera to reach the market, and, as is typically the case with Basler, it offers a highly attractive price/performance ratio. With a field of vision that ranges from 0.5 to 5 meters and accuracy of approximately 1 cm, a frame rate of 15 images per second, and a proven GigE interface already used in industry, the new Basler ToF camera is the ideal solution for a wide variety of 3D viewing applications, including industrial automation, logistics, and the medical sector. Would you like to simplify your applications while reducing complexity and the overall cost of your systems? OVERVIEW Time-of-flight cameras for measuring 3D shapes and volumes Basler offers a time-of-flight (ToF) camera that uses pulses of light with a standard machine vision interface and features that make it quick and easy to develop applications for measuring 3D shapes and volumes. The Basler ToF camera is equipped with a high-power,...
Terahertz imaging at i2S

Terahertz imaging at i2S

Why terahertz imaging? Today, the need for high-performance tools in numerous fields of application provides an ideal opportunity for terahertz imaging technologies, a wavelength being located in between microvawes and infrareds. With in the emerging market i2S has integrated an innovative sensor from the CEA-LETI into a camera, the TZCAM to address the markets of Non destructive testing and medical applications. The TZCAM camera integrates a 320×240 Microbolometric Detector designed by the CEA-LETI. The technology embedded into this sensor is proprietary to the CEA-LETI and sets a new worldwide reference in terms of performances. i2S has developed a dedicate imaging electronic for this sensor with dedicated signal processing The CEA/i2S solution is the best camera on the market in terms of sensitivity and acquisition performance. Compared to its competitors, it is a a piece of electronic equipment with a very low signal to noise ratio, the better to obtain the most precise dynamics.
What objective for my high definition camera?

What objective for my high definition camera?

Like digital cameras and mobile phones, industrial cameras dedicated to machine vision integrate captors for which the number of pixels has continued to increase over several years. Although the often mediocre quality of the optical devices on consumer products has no serious consequence, the quality of the lenses used in industrial control applications must be optimal and allow for the real use of the millions of available pixels. With industrial cameras that easily exceed 5 million pixels and which even reach tens of millions of pixels today, the choice of lens has become a sensitive one. To achieve a good image, and thus a sharp image, it is important to choose not only a good camera but also the lens that suits it. Choosing a lens depends on many factors: the scope of the scene to be inspected, the distance between the camera and the sc ene, the size of the shot, the type of mount, the depth of field, the illumination of the scene, the spectral range, the resolution, and many others. Our purpose here is to focus on the key factors that will assist in choosing the lens with a resolution in line with that of the camera.
