i2S was founded in Bordeaux in February 1979 by two engineers, Alain RICROS and Jean-Louis BLOUIN. Jean Pierre Gérault (former Senior Vice President of Xerox Europe) joined the company in 2006 as shareholder and Chair of the Board of Directors.

Some milestones in the more than 30 years of innovation at i2S:

1979 Founding of i2S SA by Alain Ricros and Jean Louis Blouin, two engineers from Aérospatiale
1982 Development of a protocol for the monitoring of impurities in injectable ampules
 1984 First dedicated vision system for monitoring cleanliness of recycled bottles for a German equipment manufacturer with international sales
 1985 Encounter with the extremes and significant World premier.
i2S participates in the highly adventurous discovery of the Titanic with IFREMER and COMEX
Development of the prototype of the ERYX missile sights for AÉROSPATIALE
 1987

Development of the first Monoshot CCD camera equipped with a unique trigger-synchronized image capture device

 1988 Development of the first cameras used in the CNET/MATRA videophone, Manufacturing of video cameras for Thomson Surveillance, Development of a color Celioscopy camera
 1989 Development of the 1st line of dedicated image acquisition cards for linear applications (Numévision).
Development of an onboard camera for the Airbus A330 test flights
 1990 Development of a line of "Little Big Cam" video and Monoshot cameras
 1993 Development and installation of the 1st DigiBook scanner at Bordeaux city hall for the digitization of civil registry records
 1996 World Premier, development of the 1st color camera used a worldwide company leader in sports timing, Development of a new line of linear cards (Horizon) I2S, a member of the XXIst Century Gutenberg Association participates in the digitization and republishing of the original Rimbaud manuscript jointly with Xerox and publishers Textuel and le Seuil
 2000 i2S digitizes the 1st edition of the 1456 Gutenberg Bible, in partnership with Xerox, the XXIst Century Gutenberg Association and the Vienna Library. This World premier resulted in a nomination for the Awards presented by the prestigious Smithsonian Institute in the "Computer & Media" categoryin 2001.
 2003 Development of Flawscan, the 1st surface inspection system for flat products (plastic film, non-woven and glass)
 2004 Design and manufacturing of active surveillance cameras for SMTC together with the Vinci company
 2005 Extreme conditions and World premier, Development of cameras to monitor the separation of the boosters from the Ariane V rocket with Dassault, and acquisition systems resistant to extreme conditions of vacuum, temperature and vibration.
World premier, in partnership with IBM and Infotechnique, i2S and its Swiss industrial partner ASSY, the largest book digitization center in the world was created in France ( La Walcq, Bas Rhin) via the government-funded AMALFI projectProduct launch at CeBIT (Hanover/Germany) of the1st digital scanner able to operate with ambient lighting (CopiBook)
 2006 World premier, in partnership with its Swiss industrial partner ASSY, introduction at the Salon du Livre of the Paris of the fastest automated scanner in the world, capable of digitizing books at the rate of 3000 pages/hour without human intervention.
 2007 World premier, development and introduction of the first High Definition "But Finish" system for Canal+, able to validate a goal (the ball crossing a virtual line) in 3D and augmented reality.
 2008  i2S group creates Fondation Empreinte and launchs the first preservation work (digitization of Illusions perdues manuscrpts, written by Honoré de Balzac).
Pekin Olympic Games: Photo Finish color camera development
 2009  World first: creation and launch of the first self-service scanner e-Scan, for public use.
Launch of POLINUM, the R&D platform for digital books, assembling 5 innovative companies and 3 public research centers.
 2010  Development and launch of SupraScan 2xA0 for digiting large formats like paintings, maps, etc...
Launch of DivvaLib, solution for 3rd generation digital library.
 2011  i2s acquires a majority interest in Kirtas Technologies, worldwide leader in automatic scanners.
